The evolution of wristwatch design today has moved far beyond mere timekeeping. When choosing a watch, consumers increasingly seek cultural depth and added value.

For a long time, we have followed Western ways of thinking in watch design. At the very beginning of this project, we attempted to break free from this habitual mindset and to infuse a modern industrial product with Chinese understanding and uniquely Chinese cultural meaning.

The design inspiration for the Run Shi watch comes from traditional Chinese ink painting. Using expressive, “xieyi”-style techniques combined with visual-illusion principles, the watch vividly presents the dynamic scene of fish swimming, creating an entirely new visual experience.

We hope that when consumers wear this watch, they can not only read the time accurately, but also feel the uniquely Chinese philosophical sentiment it conveys. “The philosophy of black and white, the wisdom of movement and stillness” gives form to the abstract concept of time, embodying the Chinese philosophy of being subtle, restrained, refined (Run), and worldly-wise in conduct (Shi). The watch tells its own story, leaving space for imagination and lingering reflection.

The product’s design fully considers ergonomics. The form emphasizes a sense of layered depth, presenting an elegant and understated overall impression, with design lines flowing like drifting clouds and running water.

The central pattern on the crystal captures the moment when the brush meets the paper in ink painting, resembling a spreading ink dot. It conveys the poetic feeling of “moistening things silently.”

The Run Shi dynamic-display watch is the result of industry–academia collaboration between the Industrial Design Center of Tianjin Seagull Watch Group and the Industrial Design program of Tianjin University.

As early as 2014, Tianjin University and Tianjin Seagull Watch Group signed a cooperation agreement. Seagull provided technical and financial support for the university’s industrial design program, while the university incorporated watch design into its curriculum, embarking on an integrated path of joint education, industry–academia collaboration, and research.

Founded in 2010, the Industrial Design Center of Tianjin Seagull Watch Group Co., Ltd. was recognized as a National Industrial Design Center by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in October 2013. The center is committed to building Seagull into China’s leading and globally renowned enterprise—one with strong design innovation capabilities, independent core technologies, and its own brand. Through the advancement of industrial design, Seagull aims to make the historic leap from “Made in China” to “Created in China,” opening a new chapter in Seagull’s creative culture.

In 2015, the Run Shi watch won the Silver Award at the 2nd China Watch Design Competition.

In 2016, the Run Shi watch received the title of Top 10 Creative Products of China Time-Honored Brands 2016 at the China Time-Honored Brand Creative Design Competition.

Also in 2016, the Run Shi watch stood out among more than a thousand entries to be selected as one of the Top 40 finalists of the 2016 China Excellent Industrial Design Award, the highest-level industrial design award in China.

腕表设计发展到今天，已经不单单是一种计时工具，消费者在选择表款时更多的是追求其文化内涵与附加价值。

机械腕表的设计源自西方，一直以来我们都是追随西方对于腕表的设计思维。该腕表在设计之初，我们便尝试摆脱这种思维惯性，在现代工业产品中注入中国人的理解和中国独有的文化内涵。

润世手表的设计灵感源自中国传统的水墨画，用类似“写意”的绘画手法，结合视错觉原理将一副鱼游动的画面生动的呈现出来，为腕表赋予全新的视觉体验。

我们希望消费者在佩戴腕表时不仅能够精准的读取时间，同时也能感受到这款腕表所传达出来的一种中国独有的哲学意味。“黑与白的哲学，动与静的智慧”将抽象的时间变得具象，将中国人含蓄内敛、富有内涵（润）的处世哲学（世），蕴含其中，让腕表可以自己讲故事，让佩戴者在观看时可以有更多的想象和回味空间。

产品设计充分考虑了人机工程学，造型设计上突出层次感，整体感觉优雅含蓄，设计线条如同行云流水。

表镜中心的图案定格了水墨画中画笔与纸张接触的瞬间感受，好似晕染开的墨点一般，表达出一种“润物细无声”的意境。

润世动态显示腕表是天津海鸥表业集团工业设计中心与天津大学工业设计专业产学研合作的成果。

早在2014年，天津大学与天津海鸥表业集团，签订了校企合作协议，海鸥表业集团为天津大学工业设计专业提供技术支持以及资金支持，天津大学将钟表设计融入学生训练课题，开启校企联合、产学研一体化的探索道路。

2015年，“润世”腕表在第二届中国钟表设计大赛中获得银奖。

2016年，“润世”腕表在中华老字号时尚创意大赛中斩获“2016年度中华老字号十大创意产品”称号。

2016年，“润世”腕表在千余份作品中脱颖而出，入围“2016年中国优秀工业设计奖40强。（中国级别最高的工业设计奖项）。
