This model uses the traditional Chinese timekeeping system, which divides a day into twelve two-hour periods known as Shichen (时辰). These twelve periods are named 子、丑、寅、卯、辰、巳、午、未、申、酉、戌、亥. The first period, 子 (Zi), runs from 23:00 to 01:00, followed by 丑 (Chou) from 01:00 to 03:00, and so on.

Unlike a conventional 12-hour watch, the hour hand on this watch completes one full rotation every twelve Shichen, or 24 hours.
